abstract = "The current research project consisted in the analysis of digital journalistic elements
that were considered for the 2017 update of the university’s digital newspaper El
Giro belonging to the Journalism and Social Communication Program at the
Universidad Autónoma de Occidente.

Using a descriptive qualitative research methodology, in which various techniques
were considered, such as, documentary analysis, individual in-depth interviews with
people who played a key role in the update, as well as experts in traditional,
university and digital journalism. Another technique used was direct observation in
order to compare references of mainstream and university digital journalism. Lastly,
a bibliographic review was used as supporting research to better understand recent
developments and new research in digital journalism worldwide.

The following three specific objectives were considered: identify the conceptual,
content based, and technical criteria used during the 2017 update, describe the
various stages of content migration and determine the traditional journalistic
elements that continue to be used in the updated version of the El Giro digital
newspaper today",
