AB - The  present  article  defines  and  explains  the  custom  clearance  procedure  for  an  import  cargo   in   Colombia   that   requires   import   licensing.  This  research  aims  to  determine  optimization opportunities within its processes in order to reduce lead times as well as extra costs that are generated mainly from storage costs in the port terminals, sanctions or legal fines. For this current research, it was taken into account the respective laws that drive an import process, the different actors involved along the supply chain, and the real experience gather  throughout  many  custom  clearance  processes  made  by  the  Customs  Agency  Colmas  and  feedback  from  its  clients.  As  a  result, it was possible to quantify import lead times  for  merchandises  that  require  import  licensing  (24  days)  and  post  BL  release  (9  days).  Present  proposal  estimates  up  to  12  business days and 3 days post BL release
