Sustainable Development is the term that includes a number of economic, social and environmental aspects. This definition emerges as a solution to the current socio-economic crisis facing most of the countries, which is why since 2000 the first sustainable movement was consolidated with the purpose of obtaining the commitment of those nations to work on actions to improve the quality of life of its population and achieve collective well-being, establishing 2015 as the year to evaluate the fulfillment of its objectives.
This movement was called Millennium Development, and although it marked the beginning of a social awareness, it was necessary to strengthen this commitment through the Agenda for 2030, whose function is to provide continuity to the sustainable development objectives already established. Within the agenda, the participation of each individual is considered for the achievement of the objectives of consumption and sustainable production, being then the consumer the protagonist of this new category.
In order to understand the decision making of the consumer, 4 possible variables were evaluated: home, education, government, company, that can influence the behavior and actions oriented to consumption, within the analysis the existing participation between said variables is visualized, resulting from the discovery of the differences between Colombian and Japanese society and evidencing which aspects should be strengthened for their commitment towards 2030. To this end, a parallel analysis of Japan on the above aspects was complemented in the investigation, with the purpose of knowing what are the significant differences with this country leader in sustainability and economic power
